How2charist - Join Us On Set!
We’re going to be filming the Spanish-language version of the How2charist: Digital Instructed Eucharist on Saturday, November 17 in Los Angeles, Ca., and we’re looking for volunteers to be in our cast!
If you’re in the Los Angeles area, or are willing to drive to the Los Angeles area, we’d love to have you for a fun half-day of filming.
Where: Church of the Epiphany (2808 Altura, Los Angeles, CA map it!); there are several public transit options available.
When: Saturday, November 17, 9a - 2p.
Who: Everyone! (As long as you can stay for the whole block of time.) People of all faith backgrounds, races, genders, sexual orientations, immigration statuses, and more are invited. Trinity Ambler is an accessible facility. Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your journey of faith, you’re welcome to be part of the How2charist.
What is this exactly?
We’re capturing a cinematic version of a Service of Holy Eucharist in Spanish. That means that the final product will be a complete service - but it might not look exactly like that on the filming day. We’ll be in a church, but on a film set. There might be times that we stop and repeat a section of the service to capture just the right angles (and to make sure all the words are right). And we may film some pieces out of the order you’re used to on Sunday morning. But having a full, participating congregation will be key to sharing the Eucharistic service with the world. We want to show folks what it’s like to worship in an Episcopal (or another liturgically-oriented) Church each week, and that’s what you’ll be helping us bring to life.
What should I wear?
Whatever you might wear to church, be it shorts or three-piece suits, jeans or fancy dresses. We are hoping for an eclectic gathering, representative of the whole church. Don’t worry about fitting in to a particular mold. We’re proud that the Episcopal Church welcomes everyone, and we want to show that off in this film.
What if I'm not an Episcopalian, or Christian, or just not sure about this church thing?
When we say "all are welcome," we really mean all. So, maybe you've never experienced the liturgy of the Episcopal Church. Maybe you worship at a synagogue or mosque, or find meaning and spiritual fulfillment on your favorite trail or in your favorite piece of music. Perhaps you're just in the Los Angeles area and would like to take part in being on a film set for half a day and meet some really fun, friendly people. If so, you're welcome to be part of this project. We'd love for you to join us. And, if you have any questions you'd like to ask before you decide, you're invited to send Callie a message.
Can I bring my kids?
We certainly want kids to join in the fun. We only ask that you keep in mind the schedule of the day - we’ll need them to participate in the full half-day (for film continuity and such), so we’ll trust your judgement. But squirming is welcome. It is church, after all.
Where will this be seen?
If things go as we hope, this film will be seen all across the Church, in many different contexts. Our hope is that congregations and dioceses, Bible study groups and seminaries and lots of others will use this resource to introduce folks to our beautiful liturgy and the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples. You might see clips on church websites, in diocesan trainings, and on social media. We can’t promise you’ll be discovered, but we’re sure you’ll have fun!
Will there be lunch?
Yes! We want to take good care of our volunteers, and show our love for the time you’re giving to help with this project. We’ll have options for vegetarians and gluten-free participants - there’ll be something for everyone.
How do I sign up?
We’re glad you asked! Fill out this simple form and we’ll reach out to confirm your attendance. If you’re bringing kids, please list them in the space provided.
